The Art of Seeing Creatively
with Rick Schafer

Photographer & Director of the Ray Atkeson Image Archive

February 8th and 9th, 2020 at Black Butte Ranch
$625* per student, limited to 8 students

A weekend of classroom and field sessions designed to study and discuss the art of seeing the world creatively through a camera’s lens and how to further interpret the photograph after the initial exposure.

Prior to 1940, photographers lived in the world of black & white, there was no color film.  Photographers of this era studied composition and tonal range and the images they produced became the foundation of how photographers see through their cameras today.

Rick Schafer has over 40 years of professional experience as a photographer and is the stepson and protégé of master photographer Ray Atkeson.  Students will have the opportunity to study photographic prints produced by Mr. Atkeson and discuss the field & darkroom techniques he used to achieve the final print.  Rick will lead classroom and field sessions for students to learn and expand their own photographic vision and learn how to see the world more creatively.

The workshop will begin at 7:00am on Saturday morning and conclude at 4:00pm on Sunday afternoon. The equipment required for students is a DSLR camera, tripod, and computer with image editing software.

*Tuition includes all classroom and field sessions and 5 meals during the course of the weekend.  Lodging packages are available through Black Butte Ranch.

Payment completes your registration in the workshop.  Information with additional details will be emailed to you.  Please be sure you include your contact info in the payment process in the Add a note for the seller section.
